Often the app does not get GPS- However, another app at the same can get GPS without any problems.

Does this app possibly use the Google Play Services for GPS or – if not – is there another problem?

F-Droid version
Android 7/Lineage OS 14

I share the same problem. GPS works fine in other apps but I never get it in ForRunners, I only get this in the notification message:

Searching for GPS

Repository: https://f-droid.org/packages/net.khertan.forrunners/
ForRunners: 1.1.3
Android: 4.4.2
Device: Samsung Galaxy Express 2

The same here. it's been working perfectly fine on the same device under Android 4.4, but fails to access GPS under Android 5. It's not even attemtping to. A GPS icon even doesn't appear in notification bar.
FDroid version 1.1.3

Does it need Google Play services installed to access location data?

Only GPS enabled AFAIK, so Google Play should not play a role at all. And it is the F-Droid versions, which cannot (really) use Google Play Services anyway, AFAIK.

You can try to install "SatStat" from F-Droid. It gives you more information about GPS... And the you can request to update AGPS data.

GPS works fine. Another apps are able to request access to phone's location and use it just fine. ForRunners never requests access and GPS icon doesn't appear on notification bar. Even if I set to grant access to location services via Android Settings it never works.
