Concerned that now all keys are being picked up reliably

Not sure if this helps - but maybe there is something about unicode v's scancode keys: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/clients/mac-whatsnew#updates-for-version-1038
