A user has a set of homologous genes of interest (e.g., showing different contexts of expression) and wishes to explore the extend to which they reside in regions of similar gene context and the level of structural conservation. Type of data is homogeneous (annotated genomes) but may focus on different taxonomic clades, some may contain pan genomic diversity. If genes comes from outside sources could be name/id resolution issues. Seems like providers need an identical and highly structured API and a common scheme for defining homology (e.g., PANTHER gene families, interpro domains).
