Quick summary

While testing another issue, I found something weird. Whenever, I was selecting the Home page field to Default within Calypso, the Posts page would get the Pages template by default.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Activate TwentytwentyFive or another block theme
  2. Go to Settings > Reading in Calypso
  3. Set a Posts page or create one before if you don't have a published one.
  4. Leave the Homepage field set to Default
  5. Check if the wp-admin interface follows the same settings set in Calypso

What you expected to happen

It should follow the same setting set in Calypso

What actually happened

The Posts page was not selected until I manually assigned it from wp-admin.

Those settings are saved in the following options:

  • page_on_front
  • page_for_posts
  • show_on_front

Hi @Robertght, after some investigation, I think this is expected behaviour. The –Default– value in Calypso view seems to correspond to the Your latest posts setting in Classic view.

This is probably because in Calypso there is no UI for the Your latest posts setting so it assumes that is the –Default– selection.

You can check that by looking at the show_on_front option in the database. It is saved as page when selecting a specific page, and saved as posts when selecting –Default– in Calypso. In the Classic view, the value posts corresponds to Your later posts radio button, and page corresponds to selecting A static page radio button
