This is a schematic hint to delvers and hackers:
Gendial UUCP dialers can be used by ECU alongside a non-SCO
UUCP package by using extra Devices entries. uucico continues
to use Dialers facilities familiar to it. ECU can use the
more flexible/robust C programs.

ECUt3000 ttya - 110-34000 /usr/local/lib/ecu/dialgT3000
Then, use '=ECUt3000' instead of 'ttya' for the device
