The main benefit of Vial over Via was the ability to embed the keyboard descriptor file (a.k.a. the "JSON" file) directly into the firmware such that the remapping tool could directly read it from the controller's memory instead of fetching it from somewhere else (e.g. a public repository like Via does) or manually side-loading it.
