Smooth font datum on sprite

I'd like to print a smooth font onto the center of the sprite. I tried:

spr.setTextDatum(TC_DATUM);
spr.setCursor(spr.width()/2, -10);
spr.printToSprite("abc");

doesnt work. It looks like just printed text with cursor at the center (like datum would be TL).
