I found that this may happen when the Web API service suddenly crashes. If this happens, it makes sense to reproduce the workflow with a local service.
It might well be that this is not a Cate App issue at all.
WebSockets are often closed for multiple users at the same time. This may be an indication that the cause originates from current K8s ingress/nginx configuration issue.
After a while of inactivity, Cate App may suddenly loose connection to the Web API service when running as Cloud Service.
