Database Schema Management #3

In general, all OpenEdge database schema management best-practices apply. While there is no "automatic" handling of database changes, there are techniques which assist with "automated" generation and application of schema management tasks (e.g. use of PCT to generate delta, build a db and apply delta, load or migrate data, perform compilation and execute tests). While reverting a database change may be a complex scenario, when you ensure your build and deployment process is well-defined, it does not need to be a difficult one. It is important to realize: not all CRC changes cause a runtime error for compiled code. REMEMBER: During your CI process, you have the opportunity to execute tests to validate that the generated application and database state match expectations prior to continuing the CI/CD process. |
