I am trying a the extension on a HTML document. I guess this extension doesn't support HTML. Right?

It doesn't support HTML yet, but I will investigate the feasibility of adding this as a feature.

SaxonJS 3.0 (used by this extension) is slated to include a Saxon:html-parse extension function. Given this, I will defer adding this feature until the Saxon JS 3.0 release: saxonica.plan.io
