It is expected, and encouraged, that any beamline staff should modify and add code to Hyperion.
Starting a Developer Environment Against the Live Deployment
It is generally recommended that you install a local version of Hyperion for new development, e.g. see here. If you do this on a beamline workstation as your own user you should be able to run basic hardware scans (but may lack permission for nexus writing/ispyb interaction).
However, there are occassions where you may want to edit the live version of Hyperion. To do this do the following:
