@Jeroen88 I have been running the script without connecting it to a boiler as I am a bit excited to be able to interface with my future boiler currently sitting in a box! I have been confused that my published 'local_temperature' does not change after the initial published value. I am now sure this is intentional am I correct?

Hi @craigsbits,

Did you read this in the examples README? You need:

A thermometer in Home Assistant, and an automation to forward the room temperature to the Thermostat using a Home Assistant Automation (Settings -> Automations & Scenes -> + Create Automation. Start with an empty automation, click the three dots in the upper right corner and select: Edit in YAML). Add:

The entity (sensor.temperature_humidity_sensor_2258_temperature) should be the thermometer in Home Assistant that you want to use, e.g. a thermometer in your living room.

The ID in the topic (22b5ea03f784 in Metriot/EasyOpenTherm/22b5ea03f784/climate/state) should be your own ID (can be found by looking at the logging of the ESP). You may also be able to find it by looking in Home Assistant at Settings -> Devices & Services -> Core Mosquitto and then fill in at "Topic to subscibe to" "Metriot/EasyOpenTherm/#" and press start listening. After a while you should see messages coming in.

The temperature is only updated if the room temperature changes.

Also in the README:
Thermostat behaviour

• The thermostat is enabled in Home Assistant if it communicates with an OpenTherm boiler
• The thermostat shows the room temperature if it receives temperature updates over MQTT (and is enabled, see previous step)

Since I understand that your boiler is not connected yet, the Climate still is shown in Home Assistant, but greyed out and temperatures are not updated (yet)

I was talking about the internal dallas sensor. It sends the initial mqtt value to ha and then it never changes. The thermostat is greyed out but I can see the mqtt is publishing every second. My automation is correct but the entity is unavailable and hence it never gets triggered! Even if I heat up the local sensor. I assumed (after several hours reading the code) that the script was repeatedly using the previous value possibly because ot not connected and pid not running. I will report back when boiler is installed (next Tuesday). If I use external xiaomi ble telink it works fine. I did power up the boiler in its box and the ot part was working. My boiler has 2 ot connections so I was going to have oem thermostat on #1 and "Easy" on #2.... "Fight!"

The internal Dallas sensor is not used (see this line of code). The reason is: it is so close to the micro controller that it's heat influences the temperature sensed. That is why I decided to use an external thermometer and subscribe to the topic sending the temperature. You may adapt the code though and still use the sensor.

@Jeroen88 hi, installed and running. I did change that line to reflect my Dallas sensor but its still not working only sending initial reading each time over and over again. Works well with a separate temperature entity in published automation. Value not changing when local heating applied.

What if you add

dallasSensors->requestTemperatures(); 

before this line?

@Jeroen88 I will try that later. For now I am using remote sensor ok. I have added tap water flow and temperature as per your //comment as these are supported by the Intergas x series.
