Here is Milkytracker X. https://github.com/coderofsalvation/MilkyTrackerX

Here is ASCIISTEP16 standard, for any tracker or DAW. https://gist.github.com/coderofsalvation/8d760b191f4bb5465c8772d5618e5c4b
ASCIISTEP16 - the pckeyboard standard of 16-step sequencers (RFC).

Here is a short youtube demonstration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-o0m_4kykQ

Would be cool having this for hackey trackey as well.

Maybe additionally hackey patterns could support above standard as well. Then users could decide on which level they want to operate for their muting and programming actions.
Within a pattern and its channels, then use hackey trackey.
Within tracks and its bar steps (pattern sequencer), then use hackey patterns.
Not sure yet, but inside hackey trackey would be most fun as most low level I guess.

Looks interesting, but the refernece implementation is experimental branch of milkytracker ?

Some "extended" Milkytracker I guess. This concept can be used anywhere. Thus why not also in the cool magic hackey trackey? :)
