Just want to show my appreciation for this post. I found it very digestible, and it helped me crystallize some of the important principles and concepts. The links at the end, to up-to-date efforts on more foundational Nix improvements, was especially appreciated.

Great essay, thanks. I've been using NixOS for two years, but have never seen a summary of the original thesis like this.

One minor suggestion, at the end, on adding types to the Nix language, there's one more worth mentioning in addition to Nickel and Purenix - Dhall.
