Maybe a timer? My daughter had to read 20 minutes a night, and it would be cool for her to have a built in timer to know when she's read enough

This is a pretty neat idea. If implemented I suggest a blur overlay across the entire screen when the timer is done. You can add a few buttons on the overlay to either continue reading, set a new timer, or end session (which would just log them out).
