capgen.py
progress - Transition to
capgen.py
- CCPP/NUOPC interoperability
- Other business
- update list of ccpp-framework issues with
capgen_unification
label - Action item from last week: Need plan yet how to handle optional arguments (Dom to reach out to developers - EMC, GSL, Robert & Dustin - whether this is needed)
- Action item from last week: "Advective species feature" requested by NRL (#282, #276)
- We should touch base with them in one of the following ccpp-framework meetings; want Cheryl, Dave, Francis, Steve, Grant, Dom as well
- Invite them for Dec 8? Steve sent an email to NRL, so far no reply. Just resent!
- DTC needs to develop a mechanism to avoid using the
field_table
- use an internal field table approach, similar to the internal input file? --> create issue in UFS
- Updated DTC timeline and resource chart (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XbSF1ejYcPMrVtZtk1OSiMX-vI5srLkwEUhyAirGr8k/edit?usp=sharing)
- Things that need to happen for transitioning UFS to
capgen.py
(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1M3mCO3ESR9OJqLyUbQf-ahJtmfmGKilZlWaBTxsfMRk/edit?usp=sharing) - Transition now pushed out to end of February, hopefully for the last time!
- Upcoming funding cycle for the DTC, this would be an opportunity to submit this work
- The ESMF group submitted a JTTI proposal to call the land surface model (from CCPP) as a NUOPC component
- Not a general implementation for CCPP-NUOPC integration, but specific to LSMs
- Biggest part of the work is how to allocate memory and initialize variables for the LSM
- Work on our end could be to autogenerate the NUOPC cap using the ccpp-framework, and the ESMF team would be glad to support us
- Steve will not be able to work on this, but support DTC in the development
- Steve's current work on the proof of concept for a "NUOPC Compliant CCPP Framework": see https://github.com/NCAR/ccpp-framework/projects/2
- issue is that nobody has a use case for this capability
- Stay tuned for the DTC holiday party on Dec 15 4pm!
