Follow the instructions from: https://github.com/RefugeeHotspot/RefugeeHotspot

The equipment that you will need:
Raspberry Pi 3
USB Y cable
Huawei E303 USB modem
Power adapter + cable
USB - micro USB Power cable (battery to Pi)
Micro SD card

Download the image here: http://37.218.242.80/refugee-hotspot-beta1.img.gz

For Windows and Mac: Unzip the Refugee Hotspot image

Download the Etcher SD card image utility http://www.etcher.io/

Run Etcher and select the Refugee Hotspot image you unzipped on your computer or laptop.

Select the SD card drive. Note that the software may have already selected the right drive.

Finally, click Burn to transfer Raspbian to the SD card. You'll see a progress bar that tells you how much is left to do. Once complete, the utility will automatically eject/unmount the SD card so it's safe to remove it from the computer and plug it into the Raspberry Pi.

You should be good to go, start the Raspberry Pi and login to your Refugee Hotspot, or connect a monitor and a keyboard and run the Installer.

For Linux: Untar the Refugee Hotspot image

Open a terminal and type:
sudo dd bs=4M if=[IMAGE FILE] of=[PATH TO SDCARD]

(where IMAGE FILE is probably something like ~/Downloads/refugee-hotspot-beta1.img and PATH TO SDCARD is probably something like: /dev/mmcblk0)

Type:
sync

You should be good to go, start the Raspberry Pi and login to your Refugee Hotspot, or connect a monitor and a keyboard and run the Installer.

People and the Internet should be free

A mobile device to remove the obstacles that refugees face when it comes to access the Internet is being developed by The Internet Society Netherlands (ISOC-NL) in dialogue with refugee collectives in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

This device will provide connectivity in each of the collectives' physical locations and thanks to its battery will keep providing connectivity in the situation in which a collective is being evicted from their location.

The device can be taken into demonstrations, marches or specific actions. It will be possible to distribute files, images, statements and flyers wireless using the landing page.

We're aiming to deploy this device as wide as possible, starting with collectives in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.

Made with technology built in the spirit of the Internet: free and open source

Our goal is to implement a critical and conscious use of technology tailored to the needs of the refugee and migrant collectives involved. The platform aims to use values of the free software and open source movements, as they resonate as necessary for the struggle towards a free and open society, and a free Internet available for everyone.

The Refugee Hotspot is built with Raspberry Pi 3, a 3G USB modem, and an SD card. It's powered over USB and usable with a battery pack. This makes it transportable.
