Note Android paywalls is currently behind an experimental flag: ExperimentalPreviewRevenueCatUIPurchasesAPI. It is safe to release app updates with it. We guarantee that paywalls will continue to work and any changes will always be backwards compatible. They are stable, but migration steps may be required in the future. RevenueCat Android SDK v7 is here!! 😻

This latest release updates the SDK to use BillingClient 6. This version of BillingClient brings little change compared with BillingClient 5 which brought an entire new subscription model which resulted in large changes across the entire SDK.

The only modification at the API level involves replacing "ProrationMode" with "ReplacementMode". The specific replacement modes remain unchanged.

If your app doesn't currently use DEFERRED replacement modes, then you should be safe to upgrade to this version without changes in behavior.

If your app supports product changes using DEFERRED replacement mode, then you can either stick with the previous major version until support for DEFERRED is re-introduced in this major version, or you can remove DEFERRED replacement options from your app.

We've added support for Google Play InApp Messages which will show users a snackbar message during grace period and account hold once per day and provide them an opportunity to fix their payment without leaving the app.

This new feature prevents MitM attacks between the SDK and the RevenueCat server. With verification enabled, the SDK ensures that the response created by the server was not modified by a third-party, and the entitlements received are exactly what was sent. This is 100% opt-in. EntitlementInfos have a new VerificationResult property, which will indicate the validity of the responses when this feature is enabled.

This new feature prevents MitM attacks between the SDK and the RevenueCat server. With verification enabled, the SDK ensures that the response created by the server was not modified by a third-party, and the entitlements received are exactly what was sent. This is 100% opt-in. EntitlementInfos have a new VerificationResult property, which will indicate the validity of the responses when this feature is enabled.

RevenueCat Android SDK v6 is here!! 😻

This latest release updates the SDK to use BillingClient 5. This version of BillingClient brings an entire new subscription model which has resulted in large changes across the entire SDK.

Here are the highlights:

Purchasing API changes

Purchases are now configured using PurchaseParams.Builder(). The builder is constructed with either a Package, Product, or SubscriptionOption and an Activity. The builder then has methods for setting the product change parameters (oldProductId and googleProrationMode).

To initiate a purchase, simply pass the built PurchaseParams and your PurchaseCallback to the purchase() method.

Applying offers on a purchase

In V5, a Package or StoreProduct represented a single purchaseable entity, and free trials or intro offers would automatically be applied if the user was eligible.

New SubscriptionOption concept

Now, in v6, a Package or StoreProduct represents a duration of a subscription and contains all the ways to purchase that duration -- any offers and its base plan. Each of these purchase options are SubscriptionOptions. When passing a Package or StoreProduct to purchase(), the SDK will use the following logic to choose which SubscriptionOption to purchase:

    • Filters out offers with "rc-ignore-offer" tag
    • Uses SubscriptionOption with the longest free trial or cheapest first phase
    • Falls back to base plan

For more control, create your PurchaseParams.Builder with the desired SubscriptionOption.

Our Android SDK versions 5.8.0 and 5.8.1 introduced a bug that prevented new purchase tokens from being sent to RevenueCat for validation between the above dates.

Users who made new purchases were charged by Google but did not receive entitlements during that time. We've already shipped a backend fix, so affected users can recover their purchases simply by opening the app again. If the purchases aren’t recovered by the users within 72 hours from their purchase date, Google will automatically refund their purchase. No further action is required from you at this time.

Users with pre-existing purchases are not affected.

Amazon Store Support

We have introduced support for using the Amazon Store. We have extensively tested this, and there are some apps using our pre-release Amazon versions in production.

However, we have found some inconsistencies in the way Amazon Store prices are reported. We are actively working on patching these inconsistencies.

Please help us help you by reporting any issues you find. New RevenueCat Issue.

You can enable Amazon Store support by configuring the SDK using the new configure function:

For more information around configuration please take a look at the Amazon Store section in our docs. The official Amazon In-App Purchasing docs also contain very valuable information, specially around testing and best practices.

If you're updating from an alpha version with Amazon Store support. Remove the in-app-purchasing-2.0.76.jar dependency from your app/build.gradle and from the libs folder. Manually adding the jar is no longer required 😄
