Default colors for light theme hide the symbols #361

The default colors for the white theme make the symbols under the highlighting hardly visible.

So, all the e and n in a dark rectangle are not easy to recognize.

Not sure if this exactly the same issue, but let's fold this discussion into #331. Thanks for reporting.

@breandan, can we open this discussion again? This is still a problem in 2023.

If changing the default default colors based on dark/light themes is too difficult, perhaps we can add some default color options for light themes to the README?

@breandan, commenting almost one year later... I would still really like an option to choose between light and dark colors schemes. Is this on the roadmap at all?
