Sometimes logging in produces broken loops in logic, and bad URLs. Perhaps it can be better in this updated version of EE.

if i remember correctly, a lot of the logic hoops we jump through here are because of the ajaxed comments, and the fact that EE was inconsistent about redirecting to the right url.
