In the wider openBIM community, there are several standards related to buildingSMART Standards.  buildingSMART is aware of these initiatives and is trying to integrate these with the official buildingSMART standards. An overview:

• Structural Analysis Format (SAF)
• International Construction Measurement Standards (ICMS)
• Building Topology Ontology (BOT)
• IFC based query language BimQL
• Binary IFC (IfcHDF5)
• Product Data Templates (PDT; ISO 23386/7)
