The world of RiftShadow exists in a bubble of encroaching otherness. Once there were mighty gods and heros, but the otherness consumed all, and only the Immortals remained, barely holding it back. The most cunning enacted a blood rite, draining the rest of power and driving back the coming doom, but the world was forever changed. Only a small bubble was preserved, and at the edges resides the Rift. Here the Outside encroaches on Shalar, and here can be found the power of the gods. Recruits are gathered to seek out this power, and with it drive back the Rift, but the politics of Shalar remain, and not every recruit is made of strong enough stuff.
