As i've started to use git:package more I'm always accidentally editing the file in the deploy directory not the one in the sfdx package directory.

ya, have had that happen... super annoying. Currently we don't copy over anything for settings.json.

Probably some other stuff that should be in there. Will need to do a merge with existing file as this is something that will be unique for every user. Would be nice if there was a way to have a project settings that you could check in, and one that you could keep out of source control
