\f0\b\fs32 \cf0 CPU History 1.1 Read Me and Release Notes:\
\
\fs28 What is CPU History?
\fs32 \
\
\b0\fs24 If you want a graph of CPU usage in the Dock and nothing more, Activity Monitor is a lot of overhead for no good reason. CPU History is a solution.\
\
CPU History is a streamlined replacement for Apple's CPU Monitor (development stopped after 10.2, and no longer works on 10.5). 10.3 saw the replacement of CPU Monitor with Activity Monitor, but Activity Monitor uses lots of memory and CPU to update its list of running applications, network activity, and other system usage statistics.\
\
In timing tests, Activity Monitor (and its sister process, pmTool) used a combined 18-20% CPU on an iBook G4. CPU History 1.0 used 1.2-1.8% CPU to graph the same information. On a MacBook Pro, Activity Monitor and pmTool used a combined 2.9% CPU, while CPU History 1.1 used 0.1% CPU.\
\
CPU History 1.1 fully supports multicore machines, has a floating window for the graph, lets you customize update intervals (0.1s \'96 60s), graph colors, and bar widths, and graphs as small as single pixel differences in CPU usage.\
\
Activity Monitor, by comparison, has a floater, but only lets you customize update intervals (your choice of 0.5, 1, 2, or 5 seconds), set colors for the graph, and resolves to only two pixels in the graph.\
\
\
\b\fs28 Changes from CPU History 1.0:
\b0\fs24 \
\pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2160\tx2880\tx3600\tx4320\tx5040\tx5760\tx6480\tx7200\tx7920\tx8640\li140\fi-140\ql\qnatural\pardirnatural
\cf0 \
- The graph no longer erases all data when altering preferences (fixed a drawing bug).\
\pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2160\tx2880\tx3600\tx4320\tx5040\tx5760\tx6480\tx7200\tx7920\tx8640\li140\fi-140\ql\qnatural
\cf0 \CocoaLigature0 \
- Full support for multicore machines. (thanks @dsandler for a patch to get things started)\
\
- Ability to change divider size between core graphs (from 0\'9616 px).\
\pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2160\tx2880\tx3600\tx4320\tx5040\tx5760\tx6480\tx7200\tx7920\tx8640\li140\fi-140\ql\qnatural\pardirnatural
\cf0 \CocoaLigature1 \
- Changed default graph colors to be identical to 10.5's Activity Monitor: solid red, green, blue, and black\
\
- Floater window now remembers where you placed it between launches (thanks @boredzo for the suggestion)\
\pard\tx720\tx1440\tx2160\tx2880\tx3600\tx4320\tx5040\tx5760\tx6480\tx7200\tx7920\tx8640\ql\qnatural\pardirnatural
\cf0 \
\
Currently, CPU History does everything that I desire: full multicore support, graphing in the Dock icon, dynamic bar sizes and colors, and a fine-grained update interval.\
\
Unfortunately, I now work for Apple, and I'm unsure of the future of this program, including any future updates. There's a lot that would be neat to add, but I haven't heard yet on whether or not I can continue development on this program. If you'd like to pick up the project or fork it, my contact information is further down.\

Goals for 1.2:

\cf0 \CocoaLigature1 - Add option for transparency of floater\
- Make floater snap to window edge\
\
\b\fs28 Known Bugs (or: more goals for 1.2):
\b0\fs24 \
\
- The About and Preferences windows do not respond to command-w to close.\
- Niced processes don't get graphed separately (possible OS X bug)\

CPU History is based on the source code of Memory Monitor, by Bernhard Baehr, and CPU Usage, by Peter Hosey. Code is available at http://www.bernhard-baehr.de/ and http://boredzo.org/cpuusage/ respectively. Much thanks to both authors for releasing their code: I couldn't have created this without their source code.\
