This is MeshLab 2023.12. Maybe this behavior is intended.

When you have one or more files (meshes, point clouds...) in the window and you drag and drop a new file, the view configuration is reset.

This resets orthographic to perspective, resets the view orientation (towards -Z), and fits objects into the view.

This is a bit annoying: you might have set a good view for your geometry and want to add "more pieces" to the scene and see how they fit, but your view goes away and you have to move again.
