I've spoken to the newly appointed (and first ever) Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Providence, Nicole Pollock. She plans to attend the March 16 Code Island meeting and has an objective of understanding what data sets we would most like to see on the city's Open Data Portal and what structure/fields we would like to see that data in. This is a great opportunity for us. She is sincerely eager to get the sets up, and already mentioned that there will be some new overnight batch jobs running to populate data sets more regularly and that they will be adding new data sets (from the Bureau of Licenses, for example) very soon.
We can start with the Mayor's responses to our Open Data Candidate Questionnaire and also look at the Open Data Census benchmarks we'd like to achieve progress on, but any discussion we can have here in advance of the March 16 meeting will make the meeting itself much more efficient and productive.
I would love to get some more students like @apeete involved in this (could you message me on Meetup with your e-mail address or otherwise let me know how to get in touch?). I will reach out to some CS programs to let them know of this opportunity.
Looking forward to our next meeting.
