Your "google-chrome-unstable.svg" report the BETA banner, instead of the DEV banner

I think the beta banner makes more sense for an unstable program. Dev reminds more to a 'developer' edtion

I could agree with you, but Google has 3 different channel for Chrome: Stable, Beta and Unstable, and you can have all of them installed on the same machine.
If you use the "BETA" banner for the beta channel and for the unstable one, it's a little bit confusing.
If can help, Google itself add the "DEV" banner to its unstable channel
