print statement not working

in the example

class MyClient(discord.Client):
    async def on_ready(self):
        print('Logged on as', self.user)

    async def on_message(self, message):
        # only respond to ourselves
        if message.author != self.user:
            return

        if message.content == 'ping':
            await message.channel.send('pong')

client = MyClient()
client.run('token')

the print statement doesnt work. i also tried adding print at the end of the code and replaced send message pong with print pong and they still didn't print. Is this because of discord.py logging config? How can I also make it so print is printed to my console?
