Hi there, I have thought about this before; it would be possible, but would take some effort to un-do all the work that was done to leverage the extra CPU cores in Pi 2 and above. I'm not really in any hurry to try this as the Zero has no built-in audio and the CPU is pretty weak, so polyphony may be limited with certain SoundFonts; even the Pi 2 needs overclocking so that it doesn't suffer underruns with FluidSynth. Zero isn't a very attractive platform for this use case. |

Hi Dale,
thanks for your answer, I would really like a Baremetal Fluidsynth on Pi 0 with i2s DAC
and fixed Samplerate without samplerate conversion migth help a bit. Maybe 44,1 kHz as the EMU8000 Chip uses 😉 and for the Pi0 there could also be the Buttons/Display be skipped. Also a fixed Soundfont would be ok.
I found this Project but it uses a fullblown Linux as support
https://lucidbeaming.com/blog/running-fluidsynth-on-a-raspberry-pi-zero-w/
So an Idea for the Pi0 could be to make a mini PCB as Wavetable Board 😀
I would really like this an maybe I can help a bit, I can code 6502 😉 a bit ARM Assembler
and started with some Arduino Things.

Hello would it be possible to make a special Pi Zero Version which only includes the Fluidsynth?
Thanks,
Crisp
