Use with symbols? #16
Comments
You can add states to a symbol on the symbol board, since it functions like artboard as well... But not yet select different instance for the same symbol. Probably going to implement it in the next versions - What will happen is that you'll be able to change states when clicking on symbols (without leaving the page) and choose different states for the same symbol, it's perfect and ideal for the scenario you are describing and will save a lot of wasted artboards and layers. |
That would be such a great addition to this plugin, @edenvidal ! Do you have any estimates when you might introduce it? |
Hopefully soon (: |
Just going to have to +∞ this request. |
Exactly thats what I need, symbols override/changes could be Stated. +1 |
I'm a bit confused right now with regard to how States functions. Can I 1) add states to a symbol on the symbols board, and then 2) when dragging that symbol as multiple instances have each different instance show a different state? It seems I can set and switch between states within the symbols page itself, but what use is this?
Here's a scenario that I'm trying to replicate: I have a header bar with navigation. This includes logo, five menu items, a button, etc. A typical web header. I've turned this header into a symbol for use across multiple pages of a large site.
I want to be able to highlight a navigation item depending on what page the header is used in. For instance, "About Us" would change color. It seems to me an ideal use of States would be this. I can reference the same header bar via an instance of a symbol (so I don't have to copy-paste the header bar layer group over and over again and then not be able to make universal changes, to, say the order of nav items) but also be able to highlight certain nav items depending on where the symbol is used. Does this make sense?
A functional equivalent of this in Photoshop would be the layer comp states within a smart object. This smart object can be used over and over, always referencing the same core group of layers, but appear differently (via dropdown selection) depending on context.
