To reproduce:

  • Use the plug to turn history off
  • Use dconf to change the settings "remember-recent-files and "remember-app-usage" back to true.
  • The plug does not update even if closed and reopened.

I was gonna report this issue.

The location services switch have a gsettings value. Why not do the same with the History switch?
