Notes:
User 1

  • "What does it want me to do?"
  • "Is it trying to give me information? I feel it's difficult to navigate" (observed: finds all sections easily)
  • Liked the stories section, a user could relate to that
  • "Getting info quickly is a problem, I may as well call the doctor instead"

User 2:

  • Peaceful, friendly design
  • "Are these examples for me to learn about other people?"
  • "Information is really sciency - a lot of jargon"
  • myths section: clicking on the text below myths, expects the bottom text to change; suggests all myths to be on one page instead of flipping as they are just one sentence each;
  • "Professional looking"

User3:

  • "Nice landing page" (clicks but wasn't sure what to click)

  • intro page - needs intro to the topic (what the app is about) before that text

  • buttons on home page intuitive

  • stories: after clicking on "how Daniel copes" didn't expect to see "physical" and some theoretical points, expected to see more about his story; Not intuitive to click on "physical" or any of the cards to read more (!)

  • "Nice colour coding"

  • Some of the text too hard to read

  • myths - the swiping is not clear on this page as is on others

  • about us - a lot of text, small font

  • the style of menu needs improvement, looks like a hamburger menu but it's not

  • the app has a consistent feel, pleasurable experience

  • re-design based on user testing

Very impressive! Great work.

I like the first screen (line 1; screen 1); the screen with the three layers (line 1, screen 3) (physical/psychological/relational) and the screen with the body and the boxes (line 2, screen 3).

A sequence could be: hello I am EDDIE, second screen (ED definition); screen three the body and three layers explaining the possible causes of ED; screen four the cases and each with links to the interventions.

I have sent info to Nicos about ED (ED roadmap), and I am lrepaparing the cases (Key points, issues and links to interventions to use them)

Hello Nicos,

I give you as much material as I can so you have more options.
Tomorrow I don’t work at the hospital but I will be in contact with my team through emails.
Have a good evening,

Dimitri

Hi Dimitri,

Thank you for sending this over. That's perfectly fine!
We are still in the process of building the mockup version of the web app.
In order to improve the user experience and interactivity of the app, some of the content that you sent us yesterday, we had to reduce or summarise.
We will aim to have something ready by tomorrow. Will keep you posted in any case
Hope you have a lovely evening.

Many thanks,
Nicos :-)

Hi @StBarts,

We have created an initial prototype that can be accessed via this link: https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/FWJZAFVSC7R
We also conducted user testing today, please see notes on three of them above in the issue.
The next step will be to redesign the pages based on user feedback and feedback we get from you, feel free to post it here.
Have a lovely weekend!

Screen 1
Design:

  • The picture bigger and looking like a round button you need to click to turn it on?

  • A name for the app and it’s function?

o EDDIE: the ups and downs of male sex
o male sexual wellbeing

Screen 2
The welcome page might be:

-Text:
“1 in 3 men at any point in time experience difficulties getting or keeping an erection. This app has information and tools to help you improve your sex life”

-Design
3 buttons: Theory, Cases, Resources

Screen Theory:

  • Only three options (Myths, Causes, Mechanism)

Myths
Maybe the myths can be counterbalanced with their equivalent realistic statements?

Causes
--Physical
Surgery (e.g., prostate removal)
Medications (instead of pharmaceuticals) (e.g., anti-depressants, high-blood pressure medications)
Recreational drugs (e.g., cannabis)
Tiredness/exhaustion
Physical tension/stress
Pain

             --Psychological
                                     Increased anxiety

Fear of being rejected
Shame and self-criticism
Unrealistic expectations
Depression
Boredom
--Relational
(all good, maybe the 2nd and 4th comments can be removed and to add: “Lack of sexual experience/relational skills”

Mechanism
Maybe the “Aversive” state goes first and then the appetitive. Basically they are the “accelerator” (sympathetic) and “break” (parasympathetic) equivalents of our nervous system. The text needs working. We could do it in audio or as a document in the resources?

StBarts commented Jun 3, 2018

Screen Cases

  • Title: Maybe we can call this section, stories instead? Cases sounds a bit clinical
  • Navigation: maybe an arrow button to move between different stories? Or as the causes the stories can be visually represented in a stuck so the user can flick through?
  • The button “How X copes with ED” states only the issues not the ways of coping, can we add the interventions in some way to each story?

@StBarts

StBarts commented Jun 3, 2018

Screen Resources

  • Can we add an audio or link online for audio mindfulness practices?
  • Maybe following the same format for the resources grouped as "Physical, Psychological, Relational" might make it more intuitive

Hi @StBarts,

Thank you very much for your very thorough response and feedback.
It makes it so much easier for us before we start coding.
Really appreciated.

Feedback from Stuart (service manager)

WELCOME
should it read: … 1/3 of sexually active men experience ….
as well, please delete ‘health’ from ‘medical health condition’.

Stories button
Are we going to have more than Daniel?
Should we compose a little story about each example, which someone can access by tapping on the picture. For example with Daniel:
Daniel is in his mid 40s and has been struggling with ED for more than 10 years. He has smoked cigarettes since he was an adolescent and was recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes, as a possible complication of becoming overweight in the past few years. At first, Daniel’s erectile difficulties did not impact on his sexual relationship with his partner, but it has become a problem over the past couple of years. The causes for Daniel’s ED are multi-determined as he appears to have a number of medical conditions that are known to impact on erections. However, it is also likely that difficulties with his relationship are now playing a role in his ED. Daniel could possibly benefit from seeking medical attention for his ED. However, psychological support with couples counselling could also provide Daniel with some support to understand and manage his ED.

Theory button
not crazy about the capitalised font (but I can get used to it!)
i really like how this is presented with tapping the coloured squares

CAUSES

  1. Physical - no significant comment - should we mention ‘eg., some SSRI antidepressant medications’ as an example for pharmaceuticals and ‘eg.,alcohol, cannabis’ for recreational drugs?
  2. Psychological
    1. perhaps ‘cause/s’ can just be ‘causes’
    2. the different emotional states are not presented in a consistent fashion; perhaps we can have something like the following:
      1. anxiety, worry or fear
      2. shame or embarrassment
      3. tension or stress
      4. boredom
      5. numbness (a feeling of disconnection from emotions)
  3. Relational
    1. I think the examples are bit repetitive and/or need a bit of expansion, for example:
      1. worrying about the impact of your sexual difficulties on your relationship
      2. having difficulties in talking openly with your partner about your sexual difficulties
      3. having difficulties in talking about your sexual ‘likes & dislikes’ with your partner
      4. fears of pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections
      5. feeling pressure to have sex when you don’t want to have sex
      6. unidentified and/or unresolved problems in your relationship

Steps you can take

  1. Cultivate your curiosity [button from physical causes]
    1. for the Kegels paragraph, perhaps we can drop ‘relaxing’ from ‘… increase your awareness of relaxing the muscles … ‘
  2. Cultivate openness [button from psychological causes]
    1. can we change the first paragraph to something like this:
      1. We experience emotional reactions (feelings) throughout the day, from excitement when meeting a good friend for lunch to irritation when getting stuck on the Underground. Feelings are experienced in our bodies as physiological reactions as well as our minds as thoughts or mental events.
      2. Our brains and bodies are interconnected in complex and subtle ways. Feelings are constantly changing throughout the day as we interact and respond to the world. It’s part of being alive. We even experience feelings when we are asleep!
      3. Cultivate communication [button from relational causes]
  3. the links for ‘resources section’ doesn’t work

MECHANISM

  1. Appetitive state: No comment
    • Read more button - no comment
  2. Aversive state:
    1. punctuation and spelling errors: When you are experiencing fear or anxiety, you enter a state we call aversive when your body gets ready to ‘flight or flight’. The aversive state is achieved when the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is activated.
    2. Read more button - drop ‘(see below)’ as unrealistic beliefs are accessed in a different way.

MYTHS

  1. Should we change the first myth to: 'Sex is something you perform’. As well, please add ‘beliefs’ and ‘a’ to ‘Some [beliefs] lack [a] basic understanding of the physiology ….
  2. okay — but same comment for the bottom box regarding ‘beliefs’ and ‘a’
  3. ditto
  4. ditto
  5. Should we drop ‘amount of’ so it can read: Erections are related to physical strength and effort.
  6. okay

RESOURCES

  1. Links don’t work
  2. Should we give more reference information for books, such as publishing company or publication year?

ABOUT US

  1. I think we need to ‘hold off’ on this section until we find out if this application will be branded by Barts Health NHS Trust.
  2. Perhaps we should change to ‘psychologists’ and ‘medical doctors’ in case future joint clinics and psychological services are offered by additional staff members.

Great work team!

Stories

  • is there deadline for the text, can we upload change text after the app is completed?
  • is there a max number of cases?
  • under the graph “click to learn what contributes to X’s ED, and what can he do about it”

Causes

  • the physical logo should not imply muscle! Penis is a sponge tissue:) pressure makes it smaller, unlike muscles that get bigger
  • at physical causes put first:
    Heart disease
    Long-term smoking/recreational
    Drugs
  • I like a lot the “steps you can take” button.

Mechanism

  • this only seems to cover physical causes; maybe the explanation page
of aversive or appetitive can include text in sections Physical Psychological Relational (?)

Myths
Can we counterbalance the myths with some realistic beliefs? A moving page turning or folding between the two sides? Myth - Reality?

Resources
Can we add links to tedtalks, youtube, other apps etc?
Or add book cover pics of books?

Navigation
A button like bird (angry or happy!) that opens up the main menu for the app?

Tomorrow I have an ED workshop at 17:15 at the hospital at Whitechapel if you want to demo the app with clients. Let me know if you want to come and join us

Hi Dimitri,

Thank you for your feedback and engagement with us. That's very helpful.
However, as we have already started coding, we can only accommodate a few minor modifications at the moment such as the above.
Also, the prototype is not a functional app. It's just a mockup for our reference and yours.
We can probably demo the app after we have completed the NVP.
Please allow me to mention that depending on the time we have, we may end up skipping some features/pages if we run out of time by next Thursday.
Of course, any features that cannot be developed by us, plus any other functionalities, can be added by our freelance developers, here at FAC, at a later stage.

We will definitely try our best.

Thank you

Hello team,

I wish you all the best for the final week. Is it possible to have access to the latest version of the app to check the content?

Thank you,
Dimitri
