Single M.2 to Dual M.2 HAT/Shield (M.2 duo PCIe switch expansion board/adapter) for "Raspberry Pi Development Kit" and "Home Assistant Yellow" with RPi CM5?
#687
Is there some sort of Single M.2 to Dual M.2 HAT/Shield (NGFF duo PCIe switch expansion board/adapter for M.2 M Key with or without M.2 extender cable) that will allow us to plug-in two (2x) M.2 PCIe cards/modules in the single M.2 slot available on Raspberry Pi Development Kit and Home Assistant Yellow or similar carrier-boards compatible with the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (CM5) that also have limited space inside their enclosure?
Does anyone make and sell some kind of stacked or slimmed-format 1-to-2 M.2 PCIe switch expansion adapter that can enable users to for example fit two M.2 cards/modules on top of each other?
The main goal with such a Single M.2 to Dual M.2 HAT/Shield would be to be able to fit two M.2 cards in a CM5 carrier-board that was designed to only fit a single M.2 card/module. Such a Single M.2 to Dual M.2 HAT/Shield would as such allow users to either two M.2 NVMe SSD or two AI Accelerator M.2 cards/modules a combination of NVMe and Accelerator cards/modules (like the Hailo-8 AI Accelerator based M.2 PCIecard included in the Raspberry Pi AI Kit).
The boards for the "Raspberry Pi Development Kit" (Raspberrry Pi official enclosure with Compute Module 5 IO Board) and the "Home Assistant Yellow" (official Home Assistant appliance for CM4/CM5) have similar designs with limited space inside the enclosure and with the CM5 they both only feature a single PCIe M.2 slot that is by default compatible with either one NVMe SSD or one Hailo-8 AI Accelerator M.2 card (like the one from the Raspberry Pi AI Kit).
If anyone here has manufacturer contacts then suggest raise the idea to them to consider designing and manufacturing a nice stacked M.2 to Dual HAT/Shield (M.2 duo PCIe switch expansion board) in a slimmed format that can enable users to for example fit two NVMe on top of each other for these types of CM5 carrier-boards and enclosures.
