Even better news! Raspberry Pi have just released a global shutter camera, drop in replacement for the HQ Camera. It uses a 1.6-megapixel Sony IMX296 sensor, which is lower than the Arducam AR0234 at 2.3MP, but this camera should function much more easily with the Raspberry Pi PiCamera2 software. Still need to get onto the PiCamera2 conversion - but that should be soon! A full comparison of all their camera offerings can be found in their official documentation. |

Some good news from Raspberry Pi, they have just announced the Raspberry Pi Camera v3. It is 12MP, the same price as the v2 (US$25) but requires
lib-camera
instead of the closed-source PiCamera to work. We'll need to shift to PiCamera2 for it to function, but that shouldn't be too much more work and will future proof the system a lot and make it more accessible to other camera types like the Arducam.
This is mentioned in #25 - and there has been a lot of development of PiCamera2 since.
