We are answering the call "to make what I suspect is a loose confederation of folks using non-compete licenses to actually get together and draft their own set of values. To then brand that. And stand behind it proudly." Our values are user freedom and developer sustainability. As consumers of software we practice our values through funding (#245); as producers, through licensing. The new brand we are pursuing on the licensing side is Fair Source.

We have acquired properties related to the old Fair Source License. Our intention is to publish a new website at fair.io promoting the new Fair Source brand. Our aim is to launch during the next Launch Week in mid/late July. Long-term success looks like:

  • 1 announcement: "Codecov is now Fair Source" (ref)
  • 10 more similar announcements from other companies.
  • 100 more
  • 1000 more

This is the Sentry-side ticket. The main work is in the Fair Source org.

We're launched, closing here and will continue in https://github.com/fairsource/fair.io/issues. 👍 💃
