It would be nice to have a default retry on transient error and if possible being able to customize it:

(google.cloud.bigquery.dbapi.exceptions.DatabaseError) 500 An internal error occurred and the request could not be completed. This is usually caused by a transient issue. Retrying the job with back-off as described in the BigQuery SLA should solve the problem: https://cloud.google.com/bigquery/sla. If the error continues to occur please contact support at https://cloud.google.com/support. Error: 2490725

From the message, looks like a job-level retry may be needed here rather than per-RPC. Leaving this at P3 to investigate if this is better handled here or in python-bigquery.
