The Carpentries provide templates for workshops, which organizers can use to show learners where materials are coming from. We ought to do this as well. From the SC21 BOF:

For people who used existing HPC Carpentry material, in what sequence did you teach it?

Responses:

  • currently only "Intro to HPC" as the lesson from HPC Carpentry. We supplement this year's workshop with UNIX shell from Software Carpentry and a custom Globus webinar. Order:
    1. HPC-intro
    2. shell-novice
    3. globus
  • Only HPC intro, Carpentries Shell as prereq
  • na
  • Bash first.

For example, here's the Workshop page I built for our HPC Intro alpha workshop: https://github.com/hpc-workshops/ctcms-hpc-intro

Here's one that @wirawan0 used: https://odu-rcs.github.io/2019-08-21-odu/

The Carpentries workshop template repo is here.

There are instructions there on how to build a workshop from the template. The closer we can hew to the existing workflow, the easier it will be for future workshop organizers to move forward with familiar tools and workflows.
