Lesson 2, currently is "Standard Benchmarks - theory", but in my thinking this will be my lecture, and will be in powerpoint slides. Or Tim, were you thinking of something else here and the lectures (ppts are separate)? I my mind, it would be called "Lesson 2: Evaluating hydrologic model streamflow using standard performance metrics", and I'm thinking will include:
Background: Provide motivation for systematic evaluation of hydrologic model performance.
Metrics and Benchmarking: Define and discuss benchmarking and standard statistics used in streamflow evaluation (pros and cons)
Models and Data (?): Provide a brief overview of the NWM (?), NWIS (?), cobalt gages? and associated gages-II attributes?
Note: Not sure if this belongs here, as maybe some of this info will be introduced in the data exploration lecture/lab?
Results: Demonstrate metric results (from Towler et al. HESS in review) and/or screenshots of what's to come in the subsequent Lesson 2 Lab.
I have rough slides here (but of course, these are subject to change).
Let's discuss if this is what we were thinking for the Lesson, and if so, then I can start to work on the slides. Thanks!
