Project Seagull

Introduction

Please do not entirely rely on Project Seagull as this project is currently under beta channel. The service is provided and funded by Incubator of Design, Efficiency and Experience (iDEX) student organization at UC Davis. The service is hosted on Azure's virtual machine, which subscribed by iDEX student organization at UC Davis. If the cost beyond iDEX budget, iDEX has the right to shutdown this service any time.

Project Seagull aims to provide a Virtual Private Network (VPN) which can help management team members get access to certain online service for work purpose, such as Google Drive, GitHub, etc. Some online resource may be blocked by certain countries or areas and Project Seagull can break the blockage by utilizing the technology powered by Outline created by Jigsaw. Prerequisite & Important Notes

  • You have to be one of members in iDEX management team.
  • You should not use this service for your personal use, such as entertainment, etc.
  • You should not use this service which requires massive bandwidth and data usage, such as downloading or uploading big files, high resolution streaming, etc.
  • You should not use this service as a private connection if you can access the online resource you need. Even though this is one of feature offered by VPN.
  • Network management admin has the right to delete your access key to this service if it is necessary, such as consuming too much data, etc.

Install

Step 1: Get Access Key

You need to message the management admin of this service to request an access key, which is required in the following instructions. Please state clearly your real name and your position in the management team in order to check the validity of your identity.

Step 2: Download & Install Outline Client

  • Download the installation file based on your operation system. All links provided below is same as the official Outline website, considering the website may be blocked in some countries and areas.

    • Windows

      Supports Windows 7.0+

    • macOS

      Supports macOS 10.11+

    • Linux

    • Chrome OS

      Supports Chrome OS 64.0+. This link may be blocked in some countries and areas, please download it as soon as you can.

    • iOS

      Supports iOS 9.0+

    • Android

      Supports Android 5.0+. This link may be blocked in some countries and areas, please download it as soon as you can.

  • Install the Outline client via the file you just downloaded.

Step 3: Setup Outline Client

  • Please make sure you have the access key.

    For example: (the sample link listed below is not valid)

  • Start the Outline client you just installed. And click the Add Button located at the right upper corner of client. A Add Access Key window will pop up. Put the access key you get from the first step in to the text field and click ADD SERVER to finish setup.

Step 4: Connect

Just click the CONNECT button to connect.

Important Note at the End

This VPN connection will redirect all your internet connection and data usage. If you are accessing internet resource which dos not require this service, please disconnect your outline, in order to prevent unnecessary cost for our server.
