With the work on #257 I figured out an efficient way to subsample detections by time (e.g. by day, hour, etc.)

@PieterjanVerhelst @IPauwels @JolienGoossens @jreubens would this be a useful option to have in get_acoustic_detections()?

Hmm, for me difficult to answer. For the way I explore and analyse the data, it is not useful. I reduce the dataset (which is essentially what subsampling also does) by binning detections to certain arrival and departure windows.

This is definitely an interesting addition to have I would say.
In the way we analyse day, we often bin to days, hours, ... (in addition t to arrival/departure times).
Thus I would say "Yes, please add" ;-)

Thinking of usage on 2D and 3D datasets, definitely yes!
