Using parameters from scripts within AE

Hey all.

I'm feeling extremely silly for not being able to figure this out, I've been all over the documentation but I'm stumped. Can someone please point me to a description of how to use the script assets from within AE?

I'd like to inject a few parameters that then get picked up by some of the layers that I've got within my comp.

How do I need to prep my project for this to work?
How can I pass down variables to expressions within my layers?
