Using psd layers as footage assets

Hi,

This project is working great on simple after effects files! I am trying to get to the bottom of any issues with more complex after effects structures. Specificly the following:

1. I have some After Effects files that have specific psd layers imported into them.

i.e the layers are imported as footage and then the "choose layer" option has been used to show only a specific layer from the psd.

I am not looking to use these changeable footage image assets in nextrender. I only want then to render as they were set up in the original files and replace images around them. I am getting renders with all of the psd layers showing rather than the specific layers showing.

Is there a resource to see any other limitations of after effects file structures ways of working please?

2. I also seem to have an issue with .aep files that reference image assets with spaces in their file names (ie. /image new.jpg vs. imagenew.jpg) or in the folders paths to those assets. Is it nor possible to have spaces in asset paths?
