Preferences page is not working in new TB68/78 version #7

The preferences page is not working in the new version that was just merged to master. The Save and Cancel buttons on the preferences page have no effect, and either the actual values of the checkboxes are not being propagated onto the preferences page when it loads, or checking the boxes on the page has no effect.
