I recently started working on a project where I'll be using iSSA.
I have a bunch of tracking data with long/lat coordinates, so I used the lonlat = TRUE option in the steps_by_burst() function. As far as I can tell, the x_ and y_ values of the resulting steps are longitude and latitude coordinates, while the step lengths sl_ are in metres.
However, when I use random_steps(data, n_control = 3, sl_distr = fit_distr(data$sl_, "gamma")) , something seems to go wrong in the process of creating alternative locations:
For a used location with longitude 10.14..., the alternative locations have longitudes 60.85..., -983.39... and 103.01...
Am I doing something wrong? Or is it currently only possible to use random_steps() when the location data is in UTM format?

Hello everyone,
I recently started working on a project where I'll be using iSSA.
I have a bunch of tracking data with long/lat coordinates, so I used the
lonlat = TRUE
option in thesteps_by_burst()
function. As far as I can tell, thex_
andy_
values of the resulting steps are longitude and latitude coordinates, while the step lengthssl_
are in metres.However, when I use
random_steps(data, n_control = 3, sl_distr = fit_distr(data$sl_, "gamma"))
, something seems to go wrong in the process of creating alternative locations:For a used location with longitude 10.14..., the alternative locations have longitudes 60.85..., -983.39... and 103.01...
Am I doing something wrong? Or is it currently only possible to use
random_steps()
when the location data is in UTM format?I really appreciate the help!
Thanks a lot and all the best,
Björn
