synonyms and statements that have overly similar meanings

I would like hear your opinion about what to do when you encounter with synonyms in an ontology.

For instance, there is no difference between given name and first name in Turkish. (probably in most of the languages.) Do you give some additional information in comment property, about the properties can be used interchangeable etc?
