How to handle this gracefully? Split up the source for deepzoom into multiple images. This relates to other conversations about generating a single enormous image. It could be one image per contig and then this problem would only come up for large chromosomes >170MB like Human Chr1. These are fairly rare but becoming more common with HiRise scaffolding.
