VNC timeout? #63
-
I have a couple students who are telling me that the VNC connection consistently times out at exactly 1 hr 59 minutes and then prevents them from logging back in, even after a reboot. I haven't tried reproducing this but do you have any idea why that might happen? Thanks! Michael |

I haven't seen that or heard it reported. They can't get back in even after a reboot? Does that mean it is bricked? Any special settings changes? If you have Jamulus set to auto-connect, there is a default 2-hr shutdown timer which will shut down the Pi (need to power cycle to restart). This is to protect against someone leaving their connection up for days. You can change or disable the timeout in the jamulus_start.conf file. I do see VNC disconnect (i.e. after switching apps, I've never timed it) and go to the "noVNC" screen, but you can always hit "connect" and get back in. |

This really makes me wonder if they are rebooting the desktop instead of
power-cycling the RPi! I have a couple of folks in my group that have a
hard time navigating instructions related to the RPi's remote desktop, vs
the host computer that's running the browser and Zoom. It takes a great
deal of precise and patient questioning before I can find how to help them,
sometimes we're delaying the music game and I give up.

Thanks, Kevin! They said rebotting then trying urlrelay again didn't get
them to the VNC screen but I thought this was really odd and their reports
were limited in detail, so it could be something they're doing. I'm not
aware of settings changes but I'll look into it and see what I can find.
They were using Sonobus. I'll try updating them to the new jambox version
soon to see if that helps.

Hi, Kevin!
I would like to set-up the jambox to auto connect to our server, but to a
specific room (port) on the server. I have specific port numbers assigned
as "rooms." For example, 45.76.63.21:22125 would connect the user to Room
2 on our server. Entering the server address with the corresponding port
number on the pi jambox is not working. Is something like this possible?
Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi again, Kevin!
I feel like this is a dumb question, but I am having difficulty using the
urlrelay.com/go feature to connect to a jambox when there is already
another one in use on the same network. I tried navigating to the
self-assigned IP address, but the IP seems to change frequently.
What am I missing?
Also - if there is a place for me to donate in support of this project,
please let me know. I appreciate your willingness to answer my questions.
Many thanks in advance,
MK
