Rename the master branch

We should rename the default branch from master to main. GitHub is working on doing seamless support for this migration "later this year". I'm not sure most of that stuff matters though, there's no in-flight PRs or draft releases or branch protection policies. The only applicable thing here is the potential to automatically redirect users who git fetch or git clone the master branch.
