I took a look, and I think the best way to go about this is via RSS. Medium supports RSS feeds for users and publications (https://help.medium.com/hc/en-us/articles/214874118-RSS-feeds). I will add RSS support in the coming days and maybe a custom Medium tile for the homepage/top articles.

Version 1.0.3 of the extension contains RSS (BETA) support. Let me know how it works for you.

Chrome will automatically update the extension for you for you, but if it doesn't, you can uninstall then reinstall the extension.
