We need to have two modes of operation (interlocked?) - the automatic simulation of years should be pauseable and while paused it should be possible to press to simulate one year further.

So we have "step one year forward" button that simulates one year. We have "run" that starts a loop (uses "step one…" once per second) and "stop" that pauses the loop.
